The Cinque Terre
Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso: five
villages one after the other, facing the sea where the asperity
of the earth has hardened the life of the "man". Five millenaries
stories with a common destiny: an exhausting, difficult and
hard life, and only today a possibility of a redemption due
to its touristic destiny

that brings the five names around the world. |
|
|
In
the last years the Cinque Terre have developed themselves
into one of the most attractive touristic places in Italy.
The visitors from all over the world program trips, inserting
at least one visit to discover these five magic villages situated
over the rocks near the sea. The north-European people in
many cases arrive to the Cinque Terre with trains directly
from Frankfurt passing the Brenner.
|
|
They
are welcomed in an area where for centuries people could only
survive working hard, and building terraces to cultivate fruits
and vegetables. In the 19th century the end of the sicknesses,
famines and pirate incursions reduced the people's desperation,
but still at the beginning of the 20th century, when the Cinque
Terre reached their most isolated period, life was very hard.
The period of sufferance lowered consistently in the era of
railways, when the train could give people the opportunity
to travel quickly. Today the five villages maintain many ancient
parts and exist in a situation of isolation that guarantees
quietness and peace in a spectacular environment that keeps
them unique. The local borrows work to keep harmony between
the exigencies of the local people and the savings of the
natural and artistic beauties.
